Quy Nhon at a glance
Quy Nhon sits on the south-central coast of Vietnam. Since 1 July 2025 the former Binh Dinh province and Gia Lai form one province called Gia Lai, with its administrative center in the former Quy Nhon. "Binh Dinh" is still the name of the historic coastal region, so you will meet it on older maps and booking pages.
This guide covers the city and the coast around it: the beach at Ky Co, the cliff path at Eo Gio, the Cham towers of Thap Doi and Banh It, the coast at Ghenh Rang, the fishing village of Nhon Ly, the islands, food, the airport at Phu Cat, weather and where to stay. It is an independent site, not run by the city, the province, a tourism office, a hotel or a tour company. Prices are in Vietnamese dong (VND) with a rough US dollar value, as listed in 2026, and they change. The neighboring coast to the south has its own guide at phu-yen.com.

Good to know
Where older guides are out of date.
The province has changed
Binh Dinh and Gia Lai merged on 1 July 2025. Nhon Ly now lies in the ward of Quy Nhon Dong and Ghenh Rang in Quy Nhon Nam. The name Quy Nhon still works as a destination name, but addresses on older pages can look different.
Ky Co is not a remote island
It is a beach below the Phuong Mai hills, and an operator describes a resort inside the tourist area. You can arrive by road with a shuttle for the last steep stretch, or by boat from Nhon Ly. Boats do not run when the sea is rough.
Ky Co guide โEo Gio costs less than older guides say
After a change of operator, the press reported a ticket of VND 30,000 (about $1.20) per visit on 27 June 2026. Some guides still list VND 22,000 to 25,000. Ask at the gate.
Eo Gio guide โSwim with care
A report of April 2026 describes rip currents and beach profiles that changed after the storm of November 2025. Swim inside the buoys and follow the flags.
Beaches โCu Lao Xanh is a special case
One local operator limits its Cu Lao Xanh tour to Vietnamese citizens and says foreigners may not land. Do not plan around this island before you have an answer for your passport.

Quy Nhon: frequently asked questions
When is the best time to visit Quy Nhon?
The 1991 to 2020 climate averages show February and March as the driest months, with about 30 mm of rain. October and November are the wettest, with about 490 and 530 mm. Storm season in Vietnam runs from May to November, so a calm sea is never a given. See the weather page.
How do I get to Quy Nhon?
Phu Cat airport (UIH) has direct flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Trains on the north-south line stop at Dieu Tri, and you take a transfer into the city. One hotel lists 12 km and about 20 minutes from the station. Details are on the getting there page.
Do I need a visa?
German and British citizens can stay up to 45 days without a visa under an exemption announced for 15 March 2025 to 14 March 2028. Germany's foreign office asks for a passport valid for 6 months. An e-visa allows up to 90 days. Other passports need separate checking, so read your government's travel advice.
Is Ky Co an island?
No. It is a beach at the foot of the Phuong Mai hills with a road and a boat route. Which one you use depends on your tour and the sea. See the Ky Co page.
Are the Cham towers on the UNESCO list?
No. Thap Doi is described as a national monument of Vietnam, which is not the same as World Heritage status, and no UNESCO listing is documented for the towers. Read more on the Thap Doi page.
Is quy-nhon.com run by the city or a tour operator?
No. This is an independent travel guide with no link to the city, the province, a tourism office, a hotel or any tour company.
