Beaches around Quy Nhon at a glance
The city beach is a sandy strip of about 5 km right in the center, with a promenade and a cycling route beside it. Beyond town the coast changes: round pebbles near Ghenh Rang, a fishing village beach at Bai Xep, the white sand of Ky Co below steep hills and a gently sloping beach at Trung Luong in the north. This is an editorial selection, not an official ranking.
Swimming conditions are not the same everywhere or every day. A local report of April 2026 describes rip currents, swimmers outside the marked zone and beaches that changed after the storm of November 2025. Read the safety section below before you plan a swim.

Quy Nhon city beach
The city beach is the easy one. It runs for about 5 km through the center, with hotels on the street side and a promenade you can walk or cycle. For a first dip, a sunrise walk or an evening stroll you do not need a tour or a taxi. Hotels line the street behind it, so see where to stay if you want to be near the sand.
Do not assume that every stretch is guarded, free of equipment charges or unchanged since the storm. Look for the flags and the buoy line, and ask your hotel which section is supervised.

Beach and boat tours from Quy Nhon
Snorkeling trips, island days and coast tours that include a beach stop, with live prices and availability.
Hoang Hau and Bai Trung (Queen's Beach)
South of town, near Ghenh Rang, the coast turns to rock and round pebbles. Hoang Hau and Bai Trung are the names you will hear, and many people call it Queen's Beach. It is a place for a walk, photos and the sound of waves on stone. It is not a sandy swimming bay. Travel articles warn that wet stones are slippery, and the paths include stairs.
The Han Mac Tu tomb and the coast walk are close by. Landslides near the Quy Hoa pass were reported in late September 2026, so ask about the current state of the road. Ghenh Rang guide โ

Bai Xep, Ky Co and Trung Luong
Three beaches that need a ride.
Bai Xep near Quy Nhon
This is a fishing village beside the southern resorts, south of the city. Do not mix it up with the beach of the same name in Phu Yen: see the Bai Xep guide on our Phu Yen site for that one.
Ky Co
The beach lies at the foot of the Phuong Mai hills, about 25 km north-east of the former city center. You reach it by boat from the Nhon Ly and Eo Gio side or by a mountain road, where a shuttle covers the steep last descent. Ky Co is a peninsula with a resort, not an empty island. Guides list adult entry between VND 100,000 and 120,000 (about $4 to $4.80) as of 2026, and some charge the shuttle separately, so confirm the total at the gate. Snorkeling stops may be at Bai Dua rather than right at the main beach. Ky Co guide โ
Trung Luong
The national tourism site describes a village and a gently sloping beach in Cat Tien, north of the city. A separate paid camping park there was reported as temporarily closed after a storm in a listing updated on 26 March 2026, so check whether it has reopened before you go. That report does not mean the village or the sea is off limits. Do not plan your day around the park.
Phuong Mai peninsula and Eo Gio
On the peninsula you find long empty beaches and open sea, and dunes about 8 km from Eo Gio according to one travel agency. Eo Gio itself is a cliff path with viewpoints, treated here as a place to walk and not as a swimming spot. A press report of 27 June 2026 gave an entry of VND 30,000 (about $1.20), while other guides list less, so ask at the booth.
More on the area is in the Nhon Ly guide and the Eo Gio guide. For islands and reefs off the coast, see the islands.

Swimming safety and the season
Simple rules that apply on any of these beaches.
Rip currents
The April 2026 report named rip currents and bathing outside the buoys as causes of accidents. Swim only inside the marked zone, never alone and never after drinking. If a flag says no swimming, stay out.
After storms
The storm of 6 November 2025 damaged roofs, shops, hotels and coastal facilities, and the April 2026 report says beach profiles changed. Depth and currents can differ from what photos suggest.
Jellyfish and flags
Do not assume the water is free of jellyfish. Ask your hotel or the lifeguards about the day, and read the flags at each beach.
When to go
February and March are the driest months in the 1991 to 2020 normals, with about 30 mm and 26 mm of rain. October and November bring the most rain, about 492 mm and 533 mm. The storm season in Vietnam runs from May to November. See the weather guide.
Reefs
Off Nhon Hai the core reef is closed and snorkeling is limited to the buffer area. Respect the signs. A 2026 report describes stricter checks on businesses that disturb turtle nesting areas.
If you continue south along the coast, the beaches of Phu Yen have their own guide.
